A rush to measure
growing shadows
dropped from trees
yet to leaf, extended
from broad trunks
pointing toward
the next rising
sun, each day ending
when shadows finally
reach the far horizon
and merge with night,
stars, a new moon,
serial wonders continued
from last night’s dreams.
