“I’m happy for you,” I said
when you had your first.
“If only I could find the right one,
I’d have one of my own,” I said
and you nodded and said
“You’ll find someone.”
“I’m happy for you,” I said
when you let me hold her tiny body.
“You should have one of your own,”
you said and I shook my head
and said “I’ll have one of my own,
when I find the right one.”
“She died last night,” you said.
“The doctors don’t know why,”
“I’m sorry,” I said, “I don’t know what to say.”
“You should have one of your own,” you said
“When you find the right one.”
